Batterer’s Intervention Program: Alternatives to Abuse
Alternatives to Abuse is Safe Voices’ state-certified Batterer’s Intervention Program. This 48-week educational program focuses on accountability for people who use abusive behaviors while teaching healthy relationship skills to replace tactics of abuse. It is certified by the Maine Department of Corrections and participants are referred through the courts, probation, DHHS, or are self-referred. Groups are offered for both men and women. Each group is co-facilitated by male and female facilitators. The objectives of the program include getting participants to take responsibility for their own behavior, hold themselves accountable, and to help them learn how to make different choices. Alternatives to Abuse is the only fee-based service provided by Safe Voices with a sliding fee scale based on income. For more information, please contact the BIP Coordinator at 207-795-6744 ext 21.
